The initial wave of NFL free agency is complete and, well, it was a doozy.
The most stunning development last week was Patriots Legend Tom Brady leaving the New England Patriots to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The move likely signals the end to one of the greatest sports dynasties and puts the Patriots in the unenviable spot of finding a successor to arguably the greatest quarterback ever.
The options aren’t great. Jarrett Stidham, a fourth-round pick in last year’s draft, is promising. The Patriots also are bringing Brian Hoyer back for a third tour of duty with the team. Perhaps the Patriots will pull off a trade for Cam Newton or Andy Dalton. Maybe New England brings in Jameis Winston.
Another possible solution might come from the 2020 draft class. USA TODAY Sports’ latest mock draft projects Utah State QB Jordan Love to the Patriots at selection No. 23. Love is the fourth-rated quarterback in this year’s draft class and New England would be fortunate if the strong-armed passer still was available at that point of the draft.
